#1422 Springfield 1879/90 Trapdoor Carbine, 45/70 with fine bore, tight action, 142XXX range
Description
#1422 Springfield 1879/90 Trapdoor Carbine, 45/70 with fine bore, tight action, 142XXX range. This little Cavalry carbine is a standard 1879 variation with all the upgrades to the last so-called “1890” Model …just in time to possibly have been involved in the infamous “Rosebud Campaign” in the Dakotas. It has the correct serrated trigger, 1884 breechblock, correct Buffington rear sight with the protector hooded barrel band and the correct “C” stamped snap-on front sight hood. It also comes with a very decent McKeever pouch for the 45/70 cartridges (see photos). The metal is smooth plumming blu-brown with no pitting of mention and very good markings. The wood is better than average with no significant deficits, but has no cartouches, so may have been an old “fort armoror replacement”, or else the cartouches have been lightly cleaned away. There are lots of pictures of this old Indian fighter, so if they all do not load up, be sure to e-mail me and I’ll forward them along to you. VG++ overall. $1895
