#BP003 Springfield 1879-SRC, 253XXX range (1883), G/VG 45/70 bore

Description

#BP003 Springfield 1879-SRC, 253XXX range (1883), G/VG 45/70 bore (about an 6-7 on a scale of 10), and appears totally correct for all features of this military trapdoor variation. Very nice smooth metal with a darkening thin blue-brown patina on the barrel with a lighter greyish lock plate that has fine markings and some dark grey swirls of fading traces of casecolors still on the breechblock. The wood is solid but does have numerous bumps and dings and a small sliver on the right side near the rear sight. The bore looks like it will clean much better to where it can be shot with a good degree of accuracy (after a thorough safety check by a competent gunsmith, of course). There is a dimly visible cartouche remaining with what appears to be an 1883 date …but that is, at best, a guess. Overall, a decent looking Indian War carbine with a very cleanable bore and tight action. There are lots of pictures of this neat old gun, so if they all do not load up, be sure to e-mail me and I’ll forward them along to you. This is a consignment, so no layaways on this one. $1550
