#4661 Double-barrel .410 gauge shotgun circa 1890s, marked "Quail Gun"
Description
#4661 Double-barrel .410 gauge shotgun circa 1890s, marked "Quail Gun" on the back-action lockplates. External hammers, choke-bored laminated 26" steel barrels having decent bores but do have some light pitting, so any usage should ONLY be done after a full safety check by a competent gunsmith and ONLY with black powder cartridges. This is a very light gun, about 3 to 4 pounds in weight (if that much!) and retains about 90% coverage of an 80% density blue on the barrels, faded grey-brown case colors on lockplates. The wood has scuffs and dings, but solid and no serious deficits. One firing pin appears to be replaced. These very small and dainty scatterguns were used primarily by taxidermists so as not to blow the specimen into pinfeathers and also as quail guns where distance was not a factor. Overall, a VERY nice little scattergun, and very collectible. About Fine+. $895
