#SE231 National Arms Company Front Loading Teat Fire

Description

#SE231 National Arms Company Front loading teat fire revolver. (Formerly Moore’s Patent Firearms) this is a 32 caliber six shot revolver that utilizes a special teat-fire cartridge, which was designed by Daniel Moore and David Williamson, circa 1864 to 1870. The metallic cartridge loads from the front of the cylinder when the loading gate extractor on the right side of the frame is open. This model has the hooked extractor designed in the later production years, of which about 7000 were produced. It has a 3 ¼” round barrel. Both barrel and cylinder were originally blue. However, most of this finish is worn away. The brass frame with the standard factory engraving was originally silver plated. Most of its finish has also worn off. The grips are a varnish walnut and of a bird’s head design. The overall condition of this gun is good and it operates in all respects. The gun was developed in an attempt to circumvent the Rollin White patents of the mid-1850s that were controlled by a Smith & Wesson. It is believed that the strong sales of this gun was among the reason Colt purchased National Firearms Company in 1870. Serial 298XX
