#4835 Stanley Arms SxS hammer Double, 44SHOT

Description

#4835 Stanley Arms SxS hammer Double barreled shotgun, rare 44-SHOT!! At first I had thought this little cutie was an early .410 gauge with the early short chamber ...but the best fitting cartridge seems to be a S&W 44-Special case, so I THINK (....notice the emphasis on THINK??) ...that it is most likely for the 44-SHOT round that was made for taxidermists and orthonologists for specimen gathering without blowing the bird to pin feathers with a larger gauge. The 26-inch bores in this dainty little Damascus barreled double are very good (..some slight pitting but still quite bright), and the action is tight as new and without the slightest wiggle or looseness of most old hammer doubles. Likely as not this very cute (and rare) little gun was made in Europe and then exported to the USA with the Stanley Arms trade name and is so marked on ONE side ...the other lockplate is blank and apparently never had a name stamped on it. It has most all of the fine Damascus pattern to the exterior of the barrel and still has some good traces of faded colors left on the receiver. The wood is near Excellent with fine conditioned checking .....and it has an German Silver inset on the pistolgrip bottom and a smooth metal buttplate. The forearm is so tight that I am hesitant to try and disassemble it to check for proofmarks under the barrels, but it is almost sure to be an 1880s European-made import. Also known as a "feather gun", this little taxidermists tool-of-the-trade is overall about Fine, and a VERY scarce and super-cute little scattergun!! $1450. (Please read sellers rules below ..and thanks for looking!!)

Price: $1,450.00
