#2402 Allen & Wheellock standard small size pocket pepperbox, 31caliber with 4” fluted barrel
Description
#2402 Allen & Wheellock standard small size pocket pepperbox, 31caliber with 4” fluted barrel and short bag grips, 1845 patent (which is very dimly seen on the hammer, as are the address markings on the barrel). Smooth even brown patina, nice grips with no appreciable damage, good mechanics (although the nipples are somewhat “mushed”, as is usually the case), and decent nipple shield and frame engraving. Made between 1847-1865, these little pepperboxes were the most prolific multi-shot guns in the Old West during the California 1849 Gold Rush, and many were still carried in the Civil War as secondary defense weapons. Nothing special here, just a decent example of the type. VG $645
Price: $645.00
