#4884 Colt 1861 percussion Navy, c1872

Description

#4884 Colt 1861 percussion Navy, very late production for a percussion gun, 37XXX range (1872) and most probably was sold to the West where availability of cartridges was so scarce as to make the percussion still the gun of choice. Surprisingly, this gun has a good deal of silver wash still remaining on the straps, especially considering the grips show considerable wear as does the gun in general. The rest of the metal is a smooth grey brown and there is basically no cylinder scene visible, although the serial line is readable and matching. (Perhaps if the thin patina was lightened up on the cylinder, then maybe some thin scene might appear ....but do not count on this). What is VERY interesting on this gun, however, is the rammer! It has a hinged pivot-style rammer rather than the creeping rammer of the standard 1861 Model! Now obviously this is not a factory tool-room trial piece, although the work is almost that good, but one does have to see it in hand to appreciate the workings and workmanship involved. It all appears of the period and matches as to wear, finish, and metal condition, so it is my opinion that some competent frontier gunsmith simply made this to replace some cowboys broken or missing rammer. Decent gun, and an interesting conversation piece. VG as described. $1575 (Please read sellers rules below ..and thanks for looking!!)
