#4905 Colt 1849 Pocket Model, 152XXX(1857), 4” barrel, iron strapped
Description
#4905 Colt 1849 Pocket Model, 152XXX(1857), 4” barrel, and having the large IRON GUARD and backstrap! This was a variation tried by Colt in the mid-late 1850s to both use up the parts from the recently closed London factory, and also to see how the blued iron straps would sell in the US. The iron triggerguard variation is found both in large and small guard types, this being the former, and are a definitive variation and quite collectible by the advanced Pocket Model collector. (..These Pocket Colts have by far the widest ammount of variations of all the Colt percussion models with some 200 variations throughout the entire production run of 340,000 revolvers). This little revolver does have some good ammounts of dull blue remaining on the barrel (about 70% coverage of a 30-40% density) but also has detractive dents on the barrel and cylinder (which also has about 20-30% scene remaining) …and minor dings elsewhere. But this is such an uncommon and rarely seen variation, that at least it will fill a spot in some collection until it could be upgraded ..if a better one could ever be found. It is estimated that only a few hundred of each triggerguard size were ever made in this iron strap variation, so to find one in ANY condition is tough to do …and this one is a bit better than any average gun show ’49-Pocket. A very scarce Colt; about VG-VG+, as described. $1895
