#4798 Ward & Sons triple barreled shotgun/rifle combination

Description

#4798 Ward & Sons triple barreled shotgun/rifle combination (AKA, “drilling”), but differing in that this gun has the rifle barrel on TOP of the double shotgun barrels! The shotgun is 12ga with very decent bores, the rifled barrel is some caliber that is seemingly between a .44 and .45 caliber with a short cartridge case and also has a decent bore. As seen in the many photos (and if they all do not load, just email me and I’ll send them by Reply email as an attachment), this is an underlever barrel release and has a VERY unusual and a rather Mickey-Mouse device to switch to the rifle barrel. The action is very tight with a very good lock-up. Exterior-wise, this is basically a smooth “no-finish” grey metal gun with VG wood. The sidelock action is engraved, the barrels appear to be solid steel rather than twist (but this is only a quick opinion) and it has a plain buckhorn rear sight and pinched blade front. The pistol-gripped stock is solid, but the checking is getting weak and there is a non-factory amatuerish brass plate on the grip cap. By all outward appearances (as well as being a twelve gauge rather than a sixteen gauge), this unusual Drilling looks to be of American manufacture circa 1880s …although I cannot find anything regarding Ward & Sons as makers. It does need one hammer screw (as the head is broken off) and the elevator for the rear sight ..and there are two small holes at the upper stock tang as if it had a tang sight at some time in its long life. But in any case, this is a very interesting piece of firearms curiousa, being as the rifle barrel is reversed from the usual Drilling configuration. There are lots of pictures of this neat old gun, so if they all do not load up, be sure to e-mail me and I’ll forward them along to you. About VG as described. $1895

Price: $1,895.00
